Ronnie Baker, Pierre Ambroise Bosse, Christian Taylor and Robert Harting are the next confirmed stars of Kamila Skolimowska Memorial. During the meeting, the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence will be honored in a sporty way. Admission to the competition is free.
The 100-meter run always ignites the fire on the tribunes. Supporters at the Silesian Stadium will witness a great duel of some of the fastest people in the world. The former Jamaican record holder Asafa Powell will face the fastest in the world – a co-leader of the tables – Ronnie Baker from the USA. Their struggle will certainly electrify fans who have the chance to see a race in Chorzów, which will end in less than 10 seconds.
Combining competition is not very common nowadays, so the greater respect is due to athletes who do it successfully. Christian Taylor belongs to this group. This two-time Olympic champion and a three-time world champion in triple jump, compete also in 400 m run and in this competition we will see him in Chorzów. At the distance of one lap, Taylor also holds international successes – he has gold medals in the relay races. His life record in triple jump (18.21) is the second result in the history of world athletics, but 400 meters with his name also has an excellent result – 45.07. He ran so fast this year, so he will try to improve his best result on the excellent track of the Silesian Stadium.
The 800 meter run seems promising. The supporters certainly remember the unexpected triumph of Pierre-Ambroise Bosse at the World Championships in London, where Adam Kszczot stood on the podium next to him. Both gentlemen could not miss the opportunity to compete on August 22. Also the former European Champion and the current indoor world runner-up at 1,500 meters, Marcin Lewandowski will be present on track.
Polish fans vividly remember the battles between Robert Harting and Piotr Malachowski in discus throw. Now Harting says goodbye to the fans – this start in Chorzów will be his last competition. Małachowski surely will not be hospitable – our two-time Olympic vice-champion appreciates the rival’s class, but there is no better taste than victory in front of Polish fans.
Kamila Skolimowska Memorial is another important athletics event at the Silesian Stadium. The event could not take place without the support of the local government.
